sea Turtle Volunteer in Todos Santos

Tortugueros Las Playitas has worked for the conservation of endangered sea turtles since 2010 in Todos Santos, Mexico. This is the northernmost Eastern Pacific nesting grounds of the Critically endangered Leatherback, and Endangered Olive Ridley and Black sea Turtles. Operating the worlds only incubation greenhouse, winter nests are successfully incubated and healthy hatchlings are released daily December -March. You can assist Biologists on night patrols to relocate endangered nests, help monitor the hatching nursery, collect and organize data, and help manage hatchling releases as a Volunteer with Tortugueros Las Playitas! Positions available October- March. A one week minimum committment is requested. We work with each of our Volunteers on an individual basis to design a program that fits your need and interests. Voulunteers can choose various shifts depending on the month of participation. Night time nest relocation patrols are run October 15 -January. Volunteer Duties: •Nest Monitoring & Relocation: Patrollong beaches to find and relocatenests to a protected incubation greenhouse (October-March) •Hatchling Care & Release: Excavating active nests to free trapped hatchlings, then measuring and caring for the hatchlings •Data Recording: Recording important data about nest contents during escavations •Assisting in Releases: Helping manage the releases of healthy hatchlings into the ocean •Environmental Education: Engaging with the public and educating them about the importance of sea turtle conservation. •Whale Watching!!!!! (Whales come super close to the Turtle camp/Nursery and can be seen most days December -February)

Marine Biologist for a Day

Ever wonder what a day in the life of a Marine Biologist is like ? Nursery Watch (& Hatchling Release) Monitor actively hatching nests inside the greenhouse and care for hatchlings until their release. Dates Available: December 10- March 20 Arrival time: 10:00am Duration: 4-5 hours Hatchling Release Learn to clean and inventory sea turtle nests, care for hatchlings and prepare for release. Hatchling Release: December 10-March 20 Arrival time: 5:00pm (December), 5:30 (Jan-Mar) Duration: 2-3 hours Contribution to Turtle Camp included $75 usd per person Reserve Below with a $25 deposit. The remainder is requested in cash on site.

Marine Biologist for a Day/ Night

Ever wonder what a day in the life of a Marine Biologist is like ? Midnight Nest Rescue Go on a midnight run to collect endangered sea turtle nests! You´ll learn how to identify nests and assist Biologists in relocating nests to the Incubation Greenhouse. Dates Available : October 15- December 15 Arrival time: 11:00pm Duration: 3-4 hours Nursery Watch (& Hatchling Release) Monitor actively hatching nests inside the greenhouse and care for hatchlings until their release.
